Café Bora (카페 보라) era una de las cafeterías que más deseaba visitar en mi viaje a Seúl, debido a las incontables fotos y videos que había visto de este lugar. Su especialidad son los postres y bebidas sabor camote morado (고구마) y de ahí deriva su nombre, ya que bora (보라) significa morado en coreano.
Café Bora (카페 보라) was one of the coffee shops that I most wanted to visit on my trip to Seoul, due to the countless photos and videos I had seen of this place. Its specialty are purple sweet potato (고구마) flavored desserts and drinks and it is the inspiration for its name, as bora (보라) means purple in Korean.
UBICACIÓN - LOCATION
Se encuentra situada en el popular barrio de Jongno-gu, a pocos metros del Palacio de Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) y cerca del mural de “We are young” (popular por su aparición en el kdrama “While you were sleeping”). Es común ver muchos turistas vistiendo hanbok (한복), porque a sus alrededores hay muchas tiendas donde se rentan por horas.
Dirección: 75-3 Yulgok-ro 3-gil, Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seúl, Corea del Sur.
It is located in the popular Jongno-gu neighborhood, a few meters from the Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁) and near the mural of “We are young” (popular for its appearance in the kdrama “While you were sleeping”). It is common to see many tourists wearing hanbok (한복), because in its surroundings there are many stores where they are rented by the hour.
ESPACIO - SPACE
Es un café bastante pequeño, con pocas mesas y asientos, por lo que es probable tener que esperar turno afuera en horas pico. Afortunadamente, cuando nosotros lo visitamos solo había otra persona en el local y poco después llegaron dos personas más.
It is a fairly small cafe, with few tables and seats, so you will likely have to wait your turn outside during peak hours. Fortunately, when we visited, there was only one other person in the premises and two more people arrived shortly after.
El bingsu de camote morado (₩7,400), aunque extremadamente pequeño, estuvo delicioso y fue la estrella del lugar. Tiene una sencilla y hermosa decoración con una flor y hojas de menta. Sin duda fue nuestro favorito y nos terminamos hasta la ultima gota. Sin embargo, el helado de camote morado (₩3,500) fue una pequeña decepcion, ya que no tuvo un sabor memorable. Aunque las papitas fritas de camote morado que te dan de cortesía saben muy bien.
The purple sweet potato bingsu (₩7,400), while extremely small, was delicious and was the star of the place. It has a simple and beautiful decoration with a flower and mint leaves. It was definitely our favorite and we finished to the last drop. However, the purple sweet potato ice cream (₩3,500) was a disappointment, as it did not taste memorable. However,the complimentary purple sweet potato fries taste great.
OPINIÓN FINAL - FINAL OPINION
Desde mi punto de vista, el lugar ya no es tan popular como lo fue hace un par de años. Es muy pequeño, con pocas mesas y asientos, tiene mala iluminación y los precios son un poco altos. Creo que sólo regresaría si tuviese mucho antojo de probar de nuevo su bingsu de camote morado. Si buscas un lugar para tener fotos bonitas de comida en tu Instagram, entonces este es un lugar ideal. Sin embargo, si tu interés es un lugar calmado y relajante donde pasar la tarde charlando, creo que es mejor visitar otra cafetería.
From my point of view, the place is no longer as popular as it was a couple of years ago. It is very small, with few tables and seats, has poor lighting and the prices are a bit high. I think I'd only go back if I really wanted to try their purple sweet potato bingsu again. If you are looking for a place to have nice photos of food on your Instagram, then this is an ideal place. However, if your interest is in a calm and relaxing place to spend the afternoon chatting, I think it is better to visit another coffee shop.
