Hello everybody!
Después de meses de preparación, mucho papeleo, visitas a oficinas de gobierno y viajar entre Corea y México, hoy por hoy puedo decir que me he mudado de manera oficial a Corea del Sur. Esto es algo que aún me cuesta asimilar, a pesar de tener un mes viviendo aquí. Si hace algunos años atrás me hubiesen dicho que algún día me mudaría a Corea no lo hubiese creído en lo más mínimo. Sin embargo, algo que he aprendido en la última década es que la vida da muchas vueltas y uno nunca sabe con certeza lo que nos depara el futuro.
After months of preparation, a lot of paperwork, visits to government offices and traveling between Korea and Mexico, today I can say that I have officially moved to South Korea. This is something that I still find it difficult to assimilate, despite having lived here for a month. If a few years ago someone had told me that one day I would move to Korea, I would not have believed it in the least. However, something I have learned in the last decade is that life takes many turns and you never know for sure what the future holds.
Para ser completamente honesta, esta transición ha sido más dura de lo que esperaba. Es una mezcla de sentimientos agridulce. No es fácil dejar atrás tu país de origen, todo lo que conoces y con lo que creciste, a tu familia y seres queridos y mudarte a un país que queda al otro lado del mundo. Sé que gracias a la tecnología podemos seguir en contacto diario, sin embargo sigue siendo duro. Asimismo, no puedo negar que me encuentro sumamente feliz al estar junto a la persona que amo. La larga distancia por fin terminó, así como la incertidumbre de cuándo sería posible vernos nuevamente, cada mañana despierto a su lado y eso dibuja una enorme sonrisa en mi rostro. El Sr. Kim y yo estamos muy entusiasmados por iniciar esta nueva etapa en nuestras vidas.
To be completely honest, this transition has been tougher than I expected. It's a bittersweet mix of feelings. It is not easy to leave behind your country of origin, everything you know and with what you grew up, your family and loved ones and move to a country that is on the other side of the world. I know that thanks to technology we can continue in daily contact, however it is still hard. Also, I cannot deny that I am extremely happy to be with the person I love. The long distance finally ended, as well as the uncertainty of when it would be possible to see each other again, every morning I wake up next to him and that draws a huge smile on my face. Mr. Kim and I are very excited to begin this new phase in our lives.

Hello everyone!
Uno de los lugares que más me hacía ilusión visitar era la N Seoul Tower (N 서울 타워), también conocida como Namsan Tower o Seoul Tower, para observar las hermosas vistas de la ciudad al atardecer y anochecer. Es el símbolo más emblemático de Seúl, se puede ver prácticamente desde cualquier punto de la ciudad y cada noche se ilumina de un color diferente dependiendo de la calidad del aire. Este es otro lugar más tachado de mi lista de deseos.
One of the places I was most excited to visit was the N Seoul Tower (N 서울 타워), also known as Namsan Tower or Seoul Tower, to see the beautiful views of the city at sunset and dusk. It is the most iconic symbol of Seoul, it can be seen from practically anywhere in the city and every night it lights up in a different color depending on the air quality. This is yet another place crossed off my bucket list.
Como mi regalo de cumpleaños, planeamos nuestra visita a la torre. Inclusive mi novio pidio medio día libre del trabajo para poder llegar a la torre antes del anochecer. Hay varias formas de llegar a la N Seoul Tower: caminando, en autobús o por teleférico. Nosotros tomamos el metro y posteriormente el autobús. Al llegar observamos varios camiones de tours que transportan turistas hasta la cima de la montaña. A pesar de ser un día entre semana, había bastante gente, pero no la suficiente como para que resultara incomodo. Tuvimos un poco de mala suerte, ya que ese día estuvo nublado y aunque las vistas eran hermosas, nos hubiese encantado verlas con el cielo despejado.
As my birthday present, we planned our visit to the tower. Even my boyfriend asked for half a day off from work so we could get to the tower before dark. There are several ways to get to the N Seoul Tower: walking, bus or cable car. We took the subway and later the bus. Upon arrival we saw several tour trucks transporting tourists to the top of the mountain. Despite being a weekday, there were a lot of people, but not enough to make it uncomfortable. We had a bit of bad luck, since that day was cloudy and although the views were beautiful, we would have loved to see them with a clear sky.
Como muchos saben Ryan (라이언) es mi personaje favorito de Kakao Friends (카카오 프렌즈) y a los pies de la torre se encuentra la atracción de Ryan Cheezzzball Adventure, así que era mi deber asistir. Para mi sorpresa el lugar estaba completamente vacío y pudimos recorrerlo sin problemas, aunque no nos subimos a ninguna atracción. Tienen una pequeña tienda de regalos y me arrepiento de no haber comprado los snacks de bolitas de queso.
As many of you know Ryan (라이언) is my favorite character from Kakao Friends (카카오 프렌즈) and at the foot of the tower is the Ryan Cheezzzball Adventure attraction, so it was my duty to attend. To my surprise, the place was completely empty and we were able to go through it without problems, although we did not get on any attraction. They have a small gift shop and I regret not buying the cheese ball snacks.
Pensaba que me pondría nerviosa en el elevador, ya que no me gustan (me dan miedo), pero el video que ponen en el techo del mismo cuando se comienza a subir logró mantenerme entretenida y distraída. Al llegar al observatorio quedé enamorada de las hermosas vistas de la ciudad, fue un sueño hecho realidad poder ver tal espectáculo. Mis fotografías no le hacen justicia.
I thought I would be nervous in the elevator, since I don't like them (they scare me), but the video that they put on the roof of the elevator when it starts to climb managed to keep me entertained and distracted. Upon arriving at the observatory I fell in love with the beautiful views of the city, it was a dream come true to be able to see such a show. My photographs don't do it justice.
En el piso 5F hay una tienda de recuerdos, con precios un poco más altos que en otros lugares, pero tienen los llaveros más bonitos que vi en mi viaje a Corea y me arrepiento de no haber comprado al menos uno. Igualmente hay una tienda de dulces y un estudio de fotos donde puedes tomarte fotos vistiendo hanbok (한복). En el piso 4F hay una cafetería de A Twosome Place y los baños, los cuales tienen una vista espectacular.
There is a souvenir shop on the 5F floor, with slightly higher prices than elsewhere, but they have the most beautiful key rings I saw on my trip to Korea and I regret that I didn't buy at least one. There is also a candy store and a photo studio where you can take photos wearing hanbok (한복). On the 4F floor there is a A Twosome Place coffee shop and the restrooms, which have a spectacular view.
Una de las tradiciones para los enamorados es colocar su candado del amor como símbolo de su relación en los barandales que rodean la torre. Nosotros compramos nuestro candado con anticipación en internet, pero como recomendación les sugiero comprarlo en la tienda de regalos de la torre. Son mucho más bonitos, coloridos y su precio no es tan elevado. Fue un detalle muy lindo y nos tomamos una foto para recordar dónde lo colocamos y buscarlo en nuestra próxima visita.
One of the traditions for lovers is to place their love padlock as a symbol of their relationship on the railings that surround the tower. We buy our lock in advance online, but as a recommendation I suggest you buy it in the tower gift shop. They are much more beautiful, colorful and their price is not that high. It was a very nice detail and we took a photo to remember where we put it and look for it on our next visit.

To end the day we took a bus to Myeongdong (명동) to have dinner at the Innisfree Green Cafe (이니스프리 그린 카페), of which I will write about in another blogpost.
Esto ha sido todo por el pequeño recorrido por la N Seoul Tower, sin duda será un día que quedará guardado en mi memoria y que atesoraré en mi corazón.
This has been all for the small tour of the N Seoul Tower, without a doubt it will be a day that will be saved in my memory and that I will treasure in my heart.

¿CÓMO ESTUDIAR COREANO GRATIS EN SEÚL, COREA DEL SUR?

Hoy les quiero contar mi experiencia sobre cómo logré estudiar el idioma coreano completamente gratis en Seúl.
My original plan was simply to go on a tourist trip to Seoul for three months, take it easy and, of course, enjoy the time with my favorite person. However, I was presented with an incredible opportunity to study Korean for free and I couldn't help taking it. Before my trip we had already considered that I studied Korean during my stay, unfortunately the classes are quite expensive, both in Universities and in private academies. This was an expense that we could not afford at the moment, so we had to discard that idea.
During my research on different universities and academies, I also found several government centers located in Seoul. These are responsible for providing services and programs to address the needs and problems faced by foreign residents while living in Korea. They are called “Global Village Center” and in Seoul we can find 8 locations: Geumcheon, Ichon, Itaewon, Seongbuk, Seorae, Seoul, Yeoksam and Yeonnam.
Sin embargo, normalmente en estos centros solamente se aceptan a extranjeros con residencia permanente en Corea. Inclusive como requisito para el registro de las clases se pide presentar una identificación como pasaporte o alien registration card y se excluyen a extranjeros con visas de turistas (C-3). Razón por la cual consideré que esta opción no sería adecuada para mi.
However, normally in these centers only foreigners with permanent residence in Korea are accepted. Even as a requirement for class registration, it is requested to present an identification such as passport or alien registration card and foreigners with tourist visas (C-3) are excluded. Reason why I considered that this option would not be suitable for me.
While I was waiting for my flight to depart from Mexico City to Incheon airport, I saw a post that caught my attention, it was from the Seorae Global Village Center Facebook page, where they announced the registration for their Korean classes. As I had nothing to lose, I decided to read the announcement and I was very surprised to see that as a requirement they did not ask to be a permanent resident. At that moment I felt a ray of hope, although I did not want to get my hopes up, I knew that they would probably ask me for an identification or the space would be full, because there were only a couple of days left before the closing of the announcement.
One of the first things I did when I arrived in Seoul was to fill out the registration form and send an email requesting my admission. Two days later I received an email from the center, where they gladly confirmed my enrollment in the course, I was even informed that my place was the last seat they had left for the beginners class.
My classes were only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Even so, over the course of 11 weeks, I learned a lot about the basics of the language, from learning to read and writing Hangul to knowing how to read the time in Korean. Actually it is a very light and relaxed course, nothing compared to the intensive classes that are given in the Universities. However, it was very useful to help make my stay in Korea more pleasant.
Seorae Global Village Center is located in the French community of Seoul, so they have greater contact with French foreigners. They have libraries full of films in French and those in charge can also communicate in that language. Reason why half of my classroom was originally from France or knew how to speak French. I established a very good relationship with my classmates and also with my teacher, who is a lovable person, always giving us super useful advice or curious facts about daily life in Korea.
Moving from our apartment took about an hour and 15 minutes. I was a little far away, but the subway crossed the Han River and I couldn't help but look stunned and that made the long road absolutely worth it. From the Express Bus Terminal (고속 터미널) station I had to walk about 20 minutes to get to my classroom, but I was fascinated with the everyday landscapes of Seoul. All my life I have lived in the hot desert, so for the first time I experienced what a real autumn and winter was like. I was fascinated watching the leaves of the trees change color gradually and then began to fall.
